Cornelius' leg mounted pilot chute gets pulled at about 10k feet. This video starts with some great video of an 8-way skyvan exit with two divers joining the formation soon afterwards. Then the premature deployment happens when one of those jumpers docks on an old-fashioned leg mounted pilot chute. Hillarity ensues as one skydiver tries to dock but is confused by the missing skydiver. Cornelius landed safely after a long ride down.

  • Here's a thought: Ditch the R.O.L. pilot chute. ... (It's 2011) - You're lucky as hell that you haven't killed anybody (including yourself) up to now...

Here's a thought, read the video description before making misdirected comments.

I don't jump with a leg mount but they fell out of fashion for killing the wearer due to misrouting from inattentive packing not killing others.

Of course BOCs are not without their own issues and have caused fatalities due to hard pulls etc. So absolutist proclamations like yours misguided in addition to being misdirected.

In 30 years fools will be calling our gear death traps.

  • IT WASN'T PREMATURED!!! I figured it out. Look carefully at 0:50. The guy in the green was reaching for his leg when he accidentally pulled the rip cord!!

  • @vincesabin Read the description of the video. That's the cause described.

  • cameraman was lucky, imagine what would happen if he/she freefalls right above them.

  • @nabazari The cameraman intentionally does not fly above the formation for this and other reasons. It is considered an unsafe place to be. He was not lucky, his training & experience averted disaster.

  • ahahahahhahahaah dude flies

  • @gregg6749 BOCs aren't necessarily better. I know several jumpers who have had shoulder injuries in the past and wouldn't be able to reach back to deploy on a BOC system. They get them changed to ROL so they are still able to skydive, not having to worry about not being able to reach their deployment handle. All deployment systems have pros and cons, and though BOCs are very popular, they do not work for everyone.

  • It's a very unique feeling when this happens. Happened to me once. Only mine was a loose pin. Pin came out everything else was following except the pilot chute which was still tucked away in my ROL pouch. Good thing I didn't have a BOC at that time. The resulting horse shoe malfunction may have been harder to clear than it was with the ROL. As it was I just pulled the pilot chute and let it go and found myself under a good main at 7k. New problem was another pass jumping out overhead. SPIRAL!!!!

  • this video just came up in my recommended videos, I hate youtube.

  • "which of you xxxxers pulled my chute?"

  • I thought the team did a great job, all things considered! I'm sure there was lots of dirt dive practice time leading up to the jump. Glad to hear that everyone walked away to tell the tale another day! : )

    Blue skies to the team.

  • That guy was probably like I wana get in the circle! then pulls his chute haha.
