August 21, 2011 Storm -- Greensboro Vermont

A glancing blow from a very noisy thunderstorm cell. This storm came through around 2:00 PM dropping the temperature from over 80 degrees down into the lower 60s. It felt downright cold! Turn up the volume to hear the thunder at full effect! Enjoy!

The first clip is facing west, directly across Caspian Lake. The clip from the road is facing north as the core comes in with gusty winds. It seemed like the most severe portion of the storm (closest lighting, highest wind, biggest hail) occurred just to my northwest. Luckily we didn't lose power.

You'll see some scattered dime size hail landing in the lake (big splashes) and on the cottage deck. A few might have been bigger than dimes but they were pretty sparse. Even bigger hail (approximately quarter size) fell 1-2 miles to the northwest on Craftsbury Road.

At 7:26 there is a close lightning strike, right on the point between the trees. This was a weaker cell that came in on the heel of the first.

I'm glad it was a good year! I don't live in Vermont. I was actually on vacation visiting my parents.

I didn't have access to radar or internet but it seems this storm was part of a larger outbreak involving several supercells that traveled from northern New York into northern Vermont. This particular storm must have lost its supercell characteristics because it was very outflow dominant on the RFD end.
