@ScoobyGotBoost displacement is close but the engines themselves are nowhere near close. the scion is an inline engine and the impreza is a flat 4

I have to agree. One of the best sounding tC's I've heard. Is it just the Megan catback, or do you have some other brand of header / CAI?

ok, but its not just about the size of the engine when it comes to sound but also the amount of cylinders and the engine type!
and this sounds like an impreza boxer engine to me.
