As far as I know, this recording is from Farrell's performance on "Invitation to Music", May 11, 1943, conducted by the composer, Bernard Herrmann. Some references have mentioned Kostelanetz conducting, but I do not think so. They give a date of July 4, 1945, but I can find no proof of that.
If anyone has more information on this or other "Invitation to Music" performances with Farrell they would be very welcome. She appeared a few times on the CBS show.

I have many playlists of rare performances with Eileen Farrell. Please see my channel page for the others.
In fact, the "new recording" is in fantastic analogue ( not digital) sound from 1974...Try to get the original LP, it still sounds the best. ;-)

This is very good, and a fine interpretation of the opus from "Salammbo" in CITIZEN KANE (RKO, 1941) by Bernard Herrmann, but I do actually prefer the newer version, in digital stereo, by Kiri Te Kanawa.

Wow, my favorite film score composer, and one of my all-time favorite singers. I'd quite forgotten she sang so much outside of the normal repertoire. Thanks, kadoguy2006!

'Benny' conducted this performance; he told me so in 1974, during which time I was preparing the recording of the soundtrack from 'Sisters'.
