  • Each magnet should show it's polarity orientation with a different color, so this video is useless.

If rigged to levitate, the fields will try to settle between the poles, so this creates drag and vibrations. This design also shows no generator or how to connect one.........useless.

  • WORLD RECORD: BIGGEST WIND TURBINE

    Visit: windturbinecarriedbywheels.weebly.com

ZERO-NOISE from gears and generators since they're sealed underground.

SAVES THE BIRDS AND BATS since the turbines are slow-moving.

DOES NOT NEED TO OCCUPY A WIDER LANDSCAPE since the turbine can be very tall.

MAY BE LOWER-COST since it can use parts of junked trucks and others.

ELUDES HURRICANE FORCE since the blades automatically close.

HELPS THE WIND ENERGY COMPANIES since it is FREE FOR ALL.

  • If the color of the magnets indicate their polarity then I think someone needs a physics lesson. :o

  • @tiantan63 how do magnets work?

  • Anyway, it has no sense to equip wind turbine by such kind of bearings, except you want to build birdscare, because its payload drags the rotor much more than even bad bearings.

  • Sorry, but this will not work. This (if magnets repels) would ends with tilted rotor.

There is no way to do this with only permanent magnets:

You have to use active magnetic bearings, or some classic radial bearings, when only axial force will born by magnets.

  • @tiantan63

vibrations, yes, drag, no.... since kinetic energy is not lost, but turned into potential energy from the magnets being pushed closer, and back into kinetic energy once going to settle between the poles

in fact, the variation over time of the magnetic flux in the space between the magnets , can be harnessed by properly positioned wire coils to generate electricity...

  • Not getting the value of maglev bearings here. It carries the deadweight but not the side load, and converting side load to rotation is the whole point of a wind turbine. Seems like your side load drag would be worse than just using a tapered roller bearing for both.

  • The obvious flaw in your design/video (though i'm sure it's just an oversight) is that the magnets are in the attract phase, not the repel phase.

Assuming you wanted them to act as a maglev, that is.

  • That solves how to take care of the horizontal bearing issue. The only question I still needed an answer to.

Now, if I can only figure out a way to get permanent magnets to help turn the actual turbine. To help in low wind.
