Chapter 14 Part 1
Memories
(This part is from Joe's point of view)
After a while, Katie fell asleep. I guess she was exhausted from all the emotions of the past day. We placed her comfortably on her bed and put a covert over her. We headed downstairs and sat in the lounge. We stayed silent for a while, trying to absorb all that just happened.
- Katie always manages to scare me to death, I say. Do you remember when she had to go to the hospital because she had broken a leg while bicycling with me?
- Oh yeah! I remember! Kevin says
- It seems to have happened so long ago...Nick says
* FLASHBACK TO JOE'S MEMORY, 5 YEARS AGO *
(Joe is 13 and Katie is 9 years old)
I was leaving to go bicycling by myself to think a little and get some fresh air.
- Joe! Wait! Katie said
- What?
- Can I come with you? Please...
- I feel like going along this time Katie!
- But...
- Joe take you're sister with you. It'll be fun! Mom said
- Oh okay! I answered
Katie gave me triumphant look and ran to get her bike. We went threw town and arrived at this park where there was a long bicycling path. I was always ahead of here because I pedaled faster and had stronger legs. She was trying so hard to keep up. We stopped for a bit and drank water. Then, I suggested a race. I knew she would agree. She did. Obviously, I dominated the race. We were going down the hill and I slowed down a bit. She took advantage of that and started to pass me from the left. She was in the other lane, but she didn't see the other cyclist coming the opposite way.
- Aha! I finally beat you! She said, looking back at me.
- KATIE! LOOK OUT! I screamed, but it was too late.
She turned around just in time to break but the cyclist hit her anyway. She practically flew off of her seat, landing on the concrete. I quickly braked and jumped off my bike. The other guy had fallen in the grass and was fine.
- Oh my god! Katie! Are you alright, I said
She shaked her head negatively and pointed to her leg, which was bent in an abnormal way. I reached out and touched her leg.
- OWWW! She screamed and started crying.
I quickly pulled my hand away. I didn't know what to do. The other guy arrived and asked me if everything was alright. He said he had a cellphone and could call an ambulance. He then left. While we were waiting for the ambulance to arrive, I didn't know what to do. She was in terrible pain and I couldn't help. I stayed with her in the ambulance, holding her hand and telling jokes to make her think of something else. We arrived at the hospital, they operated her and she got a cast. That's it.
* END OF FLASHBACK *
- Wow, I never really knew what had happened that day, Nick says
- Yeah... now we joke around about it, but I remember my heart almost stopped when she flew off her bicycle.
Well thanks! I'm happy you like it!
