"Greater Boston" host Emily Rooney interviews Rick Doblin, Ph.D. (Founder and Executive Director of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) and Marilyn Howell, Ed.D. (educator and author of Honor Thy Daughter) about the potential of psychedelic-assisted therapy to help treat anxiety associated with terminal illness. Howell discusses how psychedelics (including MDMA, the main ingredient in the street drug Ecstasy) combined with therapy helped her adult daughter come to terms with her illness and reestablish her lost connection with her family. Doblin describes what scientists are learning about the therapeutic potential of psychedelics and how they might help patients overcome trauma and anxiety.

This episode aired on November 22, 2010, on WGBH Boston.

  • If only the government wouldn't try to control these kind of non-addictive, mind-expanding, mentally enlightening substances, we'd live in such a more peaceful world !!

  • But, but don't you know that taking dddrrruuuggggsss away from people who dance is more important than healing the sick?

OK, a bit of sarcasm, but that actually seems to be the attitude.

  • I dont think san pedro cures schizophrenia, shouldnt take any psychidelics with scizophrenia unless you want to risk making your scizophrenia worse... if anything mdma could help it though in the right setting and right dose.

  • @MegaMagicman89 and where did you learn it cures schizophrenia?

  • @NinetiesYouth not mescaline...san pedro. There is a clear distinction between the two as mescaline is present in the cacti in small percentages. The plant contains many other chemicals rendering it all around medicinal.

  • @MegaMagicman89 you're saying mescaline is the cure?

  • @NinetiesYouth lies! San Pedro!

  • @inner1111mysteries absolutely no cure for schizophrenia though, and there never will be

  • so much potential

  • outstanding... it's about time main stream medicine open its mind regarding these compounds...

thank you for sharing this with us...
