Gringo vs. Wild- a small trek in the Costa Rican rain forest

I finally obtained a cheap digital camera and wanted to start documenting some of my trips out into the rain forest here in Costa Rica.

This was very spur of the moment and not much thought went into the filming or editing. I plan to start staying out overnight and doing a somewhat more professional job of capturing the experience sometime in the near future. This was sort of a test run, and is mostly being posted just so my friends can see what I have been up to. Anyway, hope you enjoy.

This video took place on November 17, 2007 from about 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Keep in mind I had to edit 10 1/2 hours down to 10 minutes.

General info about me:
I am 19 years old and currently living in Atenas, Costa Rica. I have no absolutely no wilderness survival training, I simply do a lot of reading and learn through experience. I make no claim whatsoever that I am any sort of expert nor do I think anyone should listen to my advice or imitate anything they see me do. I am just a stupid gringo who really likes climbing trees and has little regard for his own personal safety.

No, I'm just living down here with a friend of mine for a while. Just got out of high school in California and needed a change of scenery desperately.

Yeah, I am pretty reckless. I've been out exploring several times since making this video and I have been attacked by wasps, become the host of four Bot Fly larvae in my leg, etc. So far, no snakes though.

BTW, What part of Costa Rica are you moving to?

@verygood8888 LOL... dude take proper precaution...its the rainforest/cloudforest... your lucky your alive lol. im heading down in january near samara, and am researching survival methods, i cant wait to explore the jungle. is it easy to get a machete in most parts of costa rica? ive been told it should be easy to get one down there for about 10-20 american dollars.

Just being out there and being comfortable is the biggest step. If you'r serious about learning skills, check out John Young's Kamana program books. It's an excellent guide, kindof like a mentorship program.
