  • "this is like a video game."?? no its not! If you read the books you wouldnt say this stuff!

  • Um, what the hell does the book have to do with how the CGI looks?

  • it was a good movie! not as good as the books but you're just trashing both!

  • first off, I would never in my life read these trashy novels, however, if I had maybe this movie would have made more sense. Which is why the movie is so bad, you shouldn't have to have read an entire series of books just to understad one movie, this defeats the point of making the movie.

  • The reason why the movie is confusi ng is that they shot all the scenes but the studio forced the director to editi the scenes out because the content offended The catholic people at the screening.

The books are about defeating an evil version of the catholic church and stuff like that.

  • YOU COULD OF TURNED THE HOOVER OFF LOL

  • I liked the film but it relies on you to understand the allegories that the book's Atheist author presents i.e. The Ministry representing organized religion(the Catholic Church in particular), the Gold Dust representing the power of independent thought which was discouraged by The Ministry and so on. The movie unfortunately assumes that one has read the books and does not stand on it own very well. Its boxoffice failure is a shame because I would have like to see more films in the series.

  • I haven't read the books and it wasn't confusing to me. Some movies are more complicated than others and take more than one viewing to fully understand whats going on. I saw it in theaters and was a little confused but than saw it again and understood it a lot more. Now having seen it three times the only thing that is a little confusing to me is dust. I only agree with one thing you said in this review. The Bluray version looks FANTASTIC!

  • I liked the film overall. I do agree that it had too many plot elements that aren't going to be resolved until the sequel. But I didn't find it confusing. I thought the Polar bear fight scene was fantastic! The only CGI that I didn't care for was the golden monkey, which looked kind of "cartoony". But all the other CGI was fantastic. It deserved the Academy Award for best visual effects as well as the nomination for art direction.

  • Actually I have read articles saying that the other books will be made into movies. The Golden Compass only made $70 million in the US, but it made $302 million overseas. I think $372 million is a good enough reason to make the next film.

  • The Golden Compass is the counter part of The Chronicles of Narnia. This is because the Golden Compass is an atheism and The Chronicles of Narnia has Christian Parallels

  • The best thing on blu ray is ratatouille IMO

  • The movie is so bad. I'm reading the book right now and it took 200 pages to get the movie taste out. That said, the books aren't trash, but the movie is absolutely crap. You don't have to read the books, in fact you shouldn't. Your review is dead on.

  • maybe you should try reading the book
