  • True combat is "Kill or be killed"

I prefer peace and integrity but this sad world still continues to fight and kill

  • yeah.

    Admiral Isamu Takeshita was it.

An important character on O'Sensei's life. Maybe, the one who made possible for O'Sensei to continue on evolving aikido.

In the previous post, I just wanted to point out that AFAIK, the context of O'Sensei and aikido is more about streets (1 on 1, many on 1,...) and bodyguarding (remember daito-ryu's origins) that about war.

    Context is important.

Porcierto: tiene narices que hablando los dos español (creo), nos comuniquemos en inglés :P

  • Yeah brother, He was assigned the duty of teaching his techniques to soldiers, he took part of WW1, yep.... I saw those vids, my mate, but I don't remember where I saw it. I saw there an admiral who become a friend of him and supported him, making Ueshiba teach him Aikido! But I don't remember the vid......

  • mmm

I think that in some of the "morihei ueshiba y el aikido" videos they said that Morihei Ueshiba was in the army in WW1, but he was soon assigned to teaching martial arts to soldiers.

Maybe someone of you can confirm in which of the videos is that said.

But he did for sure work as bodyguard for Onisaburo Deguchi.

  • You see kpconnery mate, Bob, as a real Para soldier, shows his characteristically respect to Aikido and Ueshiba Great Master Warrior, but for sure, Krav Maga is an excellent training for an ultra professional Parachute Regiment member like him..... When you charge against an enemy position you can only think on your duty and self preservation... No time to think about the intention of the opponent: you kill or die... Ueshiba himself fought in WW1. And that inspired him on creating Aikido!!!.

  • I rate Krav Maga, is extremelly hard, but it is designed for those situations in which you can't stop the attack of an enemy simply because it's impossible: in the front line there's no time persuade an enemy soldier by mean of aikido: you just kill or die. Bobgladstone is a real honorable British Soldier, one of those guys an enemy soldier would invite to take a cup of tea at home after that disgrace called WAR is over. So, on infantry hand to hand battle, Krav Maga could be better for him...

  • Could not agree more.

There is no honour or etiqutte or philosophical basis in Krav Maga it is based on "kill or be killed" designed specifically to injure, maim or kill

  • I understand you Bob: as a British soldier you are, experienced, professional, very well trained, Krav Maga is a hard Martial Art, more focused on fighting I'd say, with no foundation on a philosophical basement but on attacking or self defense on a battlefield or against terrorists, which is critical for a soldier, but I still think: why Gurkhas are trained on Full Contact, some Sipalki and... Aikido as well?

  • @lucianoestivill

A true warrior total respect but I personally prefer Krav Maga
