Daily Uploads: Struggles of an Obese Person Living in an 800 lb body.
Jacked by the Doctor & Hospital
My husband and I have been volunteering to help James Hood since Dec 25, 2009. We are documenting him. James weighs over 800 lbs. He is unable to walk. James is totally dependent on others. When we met him I was surprised he was still breathing. He poured out his heart on the phone through his tears, pleading us to come help him. His food consumption for one day, could feed a family for a week. James was eating himself to death. He has finally gotten control of his food addiction. With help, consistence and time James can lead a normal life.
My major concern is that James lives in squalor. Yet, people are being paid to take of him. He does not have the proper bed. He does not have a wheel chair that works. I have volunteered in developing countries, but I was not prepared for the filth. James needs help. Then it makes you wonder - How many other James' are there?
In our initial visits we saw him everyday form Dec-April 2009. James was in a severe state of depression. He has had one major set back when he attempted to get out of bed on his own and damaged his back. James is at risk of hurting himself again. He tries to walk. James has no therapist.
His bed sits on the one room floor by the window, a mattress on a box spring. The mattress is half off the box spring. My husband has help arrange this mattress several times. James needs proper care. He dreams of the day he can go out side in the fresh air and sunshine. James has been confined to this bed for over 2 years.

  • really sad what food can do to you..........really sad

  • @dagudamwai Very true.

  • Is going to get liposuction? I dont think he has time to actually go on a diet. to get his weight low enough for him to walk would take years.

  • @mrostos Liposuction is never the best answer to weight loss. It is redoing of what we eat and living a healthy lifestyle. It can be done. With time patience and effort. We did not become an obese nation overnight.

  • ok here is a fact. an obese person is a burden to society and health care professionals. they lay there huge and poop the bed . and nurses have to push . roll and strain to clean that up. now the nurse has a broken back..ok for real . this is a serious matter all the way around. and it makes caring for them very difficult. people should be more responsible for themselves than this. before it gets to this extent. the Dr. the Nurse did not put the sandwich in your mouth.

  • @ThatOtherTom OMG That's terrible, He needed so much sincere help

  • @JesterPax James called us crying for help and we volunteered to help him. He was being cared for by doctors and nurses. Unfortunately, James did not receive proper care.

  • @shannonleec

    are you a James' familiar?

  • @s:Has anyone tried the Shangri-La Diet w/cases like James'? The theory: Consuming bland calories, (EX: "breakfast" / 4 tbsp(480 calories) of flaxseed oil while holding my nose), can reset your appetite set-point. I was already on a healthly diet, it just took a lot of food to satisfy my appetite. Now I eat to full satiety without considering portions, & keep losing weight, even on days I'm sure I must have gained, because it's changed my body's perception of what "a lot of food" is.

  • @mrostos Lipo's most effective for people who're close to their desired leanness in most of their body, with small areas still fat. To continue a weight-loss diet might diminish muscle from the lean ares by the time the fatty areas were taken care of. Even then, there are better ways of doing it, muscle-sparing exercise & specific diets.

Any lipo's major body trauma. Doing this guy would shock his body like a head-on collision. It'd probably require an induced coma.

  • @lazur1 Yes, people have to eat. It is what they eat. James problem of overeating is the same for many people in the United States, for that matter around the world. Fortunately, James learned how to eat in the end. Unfortunately, the damage had been done. Yes, we must reach them before this extreme, if possible.
