Has anyone ever seen an older black and white version of this? I never forgot the poem being read voice-over at the beginning....but this 1951 version is quite different.

Just watched this on TMC.
I am struck by MANY similarities that Vertigo ('58) has with this film. I think the overall tone and tragic melo-drama were lifted from this movie.
1. Bernard Herrmann's Vertigo score has eerie similarities (portions anyhow)
2. The photo of 'Pandora' is strikingly similar to 'Carlotta'
3. The painting (Pandora/Carlotta's portrait) is a common theme
Am I hallucinating? Anyone?

My late father told me about this movie when I was a kid. Four decades later, i saw this movie and it is everything what he narrated. Thank you for giving me an oppotunity to watch this movie.

expression on emotions relations reflection on love and life!

I saw this when it first came out and it is still thrilling, they don't make em like this any more and modern 'stars' are not the same....... OK I must be getting old but I don't want unlimited violence and sex all the time and there seems to be very little else!

Superb film! Did you catch the new restoration? I had the good fortune to see it twice through its Park Circus UK release earlier this summer. It looks about as exquisite as can be.
