Larkin High School Pep Band, 1/26/2007, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," The Tokens, 1961. Girls' Basketball Senior Night. Michael Johnson (Lead trumpet in Kevin Dobbeck's absence that evening) Asael Muro (trumpet SOLO, standing on floor, white shirt, back to camera), Mike Hirter, Trumpets. Patrick Henning, Director. This song was originally "Mbube," by South African Solomon Linda, 1939, inspired by a Zulu refrain. Remember, Asael's back is to the camera! To get an idea of the volume that he puts out through that old SELMER, watch the reaction of Senior First Chair Flutist Megan Taylor at 0:22 after Asael begins his solo at 0:19! Likewise, watch as Senior cheerleader Sarah Tjaden gives her neighbor Michael Johnson the "thanks a lot for the warning!" signal with a finger in her ear after getting blasted (1:37) by Michael on the the last notes.
