  • @MrPotatoesLatkie I believe you have that right. You would have to talk to the school for specifics but the classical fencing style seems to me to be mainly focused on the short sword and uses the foil just as a training weapon. This is why you don't see the modern olympic, electric style movements that utilize the bending of the bade or charging at each other with the hope of getting the hit first. The idea is that getting hit second still means you die, so you don't want to get hit at all.

  • Wow, very nice to watch. As I understand it, the foil was the training implement for smallsword fencers, at least originally. If two fencers were armed with a smallsword, would they use the same techniques? Or, is this type of fencing meant for use of the foil?
