This is one of the best opening sequences I have ever seen.
As with the opening paragraph of a book, the opening sequence must grab the viewer's imagination.
This one is excellent.
Sometimes it feels like the filmmaker put all their energy into the opening sequence and the rest of the movie does not live up to that high promise, that's not the case here.
It really annoys me where a new TV series puts out an excellent pilot episode and then settles into the usual TV formula. Why put all that effort into the pilot and then abandon all those good ideas.
In many ways the opening sequence is the equivalent of a TV pilot.
I hope you enjoy this sequence and that you get a chance to watch the whole movie.

  • I saw this movie on TV 40 years ago and also have always remembered this opening, as well as the theme song, and have now seen and heard it again for the first time since the early 1970s.

    But...

I doubt very much that in France in late 1945 anyone had multiple chocolate bars, as this woman claims to, to be able to give to that brat kid.

And I also wondered if the compartment doors on French trains would really open that way while the train was in motion.

  • @hebneh Good points. Brit movie at a time when movie makers didn't worry too much about the finer details? Thanks for the comment.

  • Araneus1; louloubelle81 send me a message with an email address and I will send you an invite.

  • A "must see" suspense/thriller.

Anyway that "araneus1" can streamline this movie?

So want to see it again.

  • @louloubelle081 go to gormogon.com you will find it there.

  • Definitely sets a mood and provides some information as to what is on the minds of the characters.

  • @leftysergeant my thoughts exactly.

  • Thanks for posting. I first saw this movie 30+ years ago and I always remembered this song and the movie.

  • I know this via John Dankworth's superb theme music, yet to see the film but I'm going to seek it out
