This is one of few issues which I seriously disagree with George Galloway. I even condemn him for falling into the trap of the 'gutter' press that he loathes so much on this issue...

What's that? It is his complaint of young boys and young men watching (and playing) violent video games would desensitise the viewer to violence and make them lower the threshold of their moral qualms about that violence. Although not said explicitly, I get the feeling that he is suggesting that playing violent video games would inspire gamers to go in a killing spree and these games must be banned.

Galloway interviews Professor Bruce D. Bartholow from the University of Missouri.

  • @AceDubsteP Wow, what a well thought out and intelligent response!

  • @mrbobo978 oh rly?

  • its the resposibility of the parents. they wouldn't let the children watch saw, scream or other violent or horror films and just like those films children can't buy them themselves and the parents should take an intrest in what there child is playing just like what they watch rather than buying them things without any thought of what it contains to keep them quiet.

  • i think these demonic computer games are so disgusting and are training our young to be heartless killers

there's one you play where you gain points for how many times you slap someone - its out of order...this is the Protocols if you ask me ...

  • @mowglee09 You haven't, but people have.

  • I love how they decide not to blame the parents. If a child is playing a violent game, it's hardly the developer's fault, is it?

I doubt a parent would hand over an 18+ rated film to their kids, but with games it's okay.

  • @JAoMC "There is a difference between reality an virtual reality."

There are also differences between you and other people.

  • @mowglee09 "but never have I gotten into my car in reality, seen someone crossing the road and forgotten that they are living beings!"

These studies would not purport that this is what happens.

"Has a video game ever caused a breakdown in an individual's reality testing?"

Clearly, violent video games wouldn't CAUSE someone to go ape shit. The study is concerned with an aggregate desensitization of violence, and how that might make a difference in crime rate at the margin.

  • I play CoD, Fallout and many other violent video games all the time and I think its fun as heck. But when I see actual war footage and like brutality towards people or animals on tv I really hate seeing it. There is a difference between reality an virtual reality. There is a difference between pixels and people.

  • 100 % correct as usual this man is. Look at the jailed in the usa.
