The Allegro Youth Orchestra, under the direction of its founder and current director Viktoras Prizgintas, continues to expand upon its desire to connect with music of every genre. Their recent performances with rock bands Pan.a.ce.a and Safe As Houses (videos available on YouTube) extend the very definition of string orchestra beyond that of the traditional ensemble with strong ties to the Baroque literature. While not denying its classical origins (see performances of Stamitz Sinfonia, Vivaldi's Concrto for Two Celli on YouTube), the group does define itself more by the dynamic quality of music it performs, whether it be classical, jazz, patriotic or rock. Additional upcoming projects include traditional Irish, gospel and folk music. With the exception of Folk Prayer, the orchestral parts are specially written and prepared by Prizgintas. Additional information about the Allegro Youth Orchestra can be found at http://www.allegrofestivals.com/index.html or you can email Viktoras Prizgintas at orch@optonline.net.
