TJ Reviews: Kre-O Optimus Prime

The great Kre-O debate, worthy Lego-style sets or the next Built To Rule? With Christmas coming up and a lot of these building block sets out there now, this is a pretty hot debate. And being a reviewer, I have to butt in on that debate. Today the review is huge in many ways, it's a long one but it's the biggest Kre-O set made and there's a ton of things to cover. Join me as I look over the large Kre-O Optimus Prime and see what this Lego knockoff is all about.

Bought this set based on this review. Then I had to buy a few other Kre-os, though Prime is still by far the best of them.

I've seen theis set in stores. One of the reasons I havn't bothered with it is the quality. Many lego toy clones suffer from bad quality, as in loose fittings, cheap plastic, and just overall cheapness. Is this "Kre-o" actually good quality on par with actual lego?

Oh yeah, and about the extra parts in robot mode, I found that there were only 3-4 pieces the robot mode was using that the trailer asked for. But as long as you don't mind using dark gray instead in one of them there's enough pieces to have both the robot mode and the trailer fully assembled. (a 4x6 black piece in the wheel assembly, two 2x3 light gray pieces on the trailer door). And possibly a large light gray piece under the trailer, but I think I found that piece near the end of assembly.

I got starscream first and really like him, his vehicle form rocks(aside from the missiles being touchy). I just got optimus, and my only real complaint is the doors for the truck mode mini base. I really hate that they're not symmetrical, but that's a minor gripe.

Thank you. My concern was it was another craptastic BTR thing but you just proved to me it's not. =) Still not my thing personally but I now definitely see why these are so great. They definitely deserve the following they've achieved.
