I think the point is to give them old textbooks that have been made free, or to allow them to access free educational opportunities such as Khanaccademy and Wikiversity.

if over here we got pc v.s. mac, then over there would it be OLPC v.s. AP? o-o

@ Targetf
Because when we melt in the singeing heat of the sun, our matter will all converse into one, therefore it will be delivered to everyone.
OLPC is a FAIL. They promised 100 dollar laptops and delivered 200 dollar ones. I can get 200 dolalr ones way better than their shit.
Cherrypal has a 100 dollar netbook for sale right now that is very good.

A great chance to show the world, what the rest of their planet is doing and think differently. The Internet and the freedom of speech is the number one enemy of the zealots and communists, information is power.

lol your right
I think it's funny there is a HUGE PUSH to get laptops into every kids hands
BUT
The idea of simply publishing textbooks online, textbooks that are paid for by public money, there's absolutely no initiative to provide that.

OLPC means every child in the classroom needs the same laptop to affect the usage of it. Even though the child takes it home to work on it alone, part of the point is to collaborate with other students, communicate remotely with the teacher, to let parents see the work process in the journal.
AP doesn't compare actual cost and battery consumption. OLPC XO costs half the price and consumes 10 times less battery then the Classmate PC.
