The Kobe Luminaria is popular with many Japanese and foreigners alike and creates a Christmas vibe. The Kobe Luminaria, which was first built in memory of the devastating Hanshin Earthquake of 1995 (and has ever since been built up every year with such purpose), takes place in December. It lasts two weeks, and the last day is generally Chrismas Eve.
