@TheMyfancypants Actually I do understand how a net fishery works, I have worked on a net purse seine boat for the past 2 years. When fishing for sockeye, each commercial boat is also given a pink salmon quota. This goes towards unintentional bi catch that can be released once it is determined the fish are pinks rather than sockeye. The survival rate for these fish are 75% so for every 4 fish dumped over board, 1 must be taken as a quota, even if it's dumped over.

@MrShawinigan you know nothing about net fisheries so don't comment. It is illegal to dump fish. All species of salmon are worth money to a net fisherman and all are listed and accounted for on the fisherman's delivery slip. Only trollers can throw non targeted fish back as required by DFO as only trollers openings target specific species of salmon. Net fishermen take all salmon.

@MrShawinigan Read the DFO site. It lists numerous infractions and fines levied on commercial fishing guide operations especially on the west coast who have been fined numerous times for overtripping. Not the odd angler either but a multitude of anglers each thinking they are only one person.

@TheMyfancypants Or are you arguing that having these sea lice have no effecs on the survivability of the infected hosts (juvenile salmon) maybe you should read some papers published by people not under DFO or an aquaculture pay role, such as th Transmission Dynamics of Sea Lice from Farmed to Wild Salmon, or Effects of Sea Lice on Juvenile Pink Salmon Predation Susceptibility, neither written by A. Morton

And i assume as a commercial fisherman you have some knowledge of fish migrations as smolt, So you believe having millions of immature smolts, swim past farming pens that breed sea lice in the billions, is healthy or occurs in that volume in nature where there aren't these "eco friendly" pens?

You say that its sport fisherman who are a major factor in over fishing because you've seen anglers take 3 times the legal limit, which is wrong in many ways. But that is the odd angler, look at commercial seiners and gill netters, who are drop their gear in hope of sockeye, but in many cases, kill thousands of wild by catch, even if they "release" them
