A simple tax holiday (small/midsize businesses) would have begun to strongly turn the economy around. With all the intelligent people out there, why do we repeatedly elect morons? Because the morons that elect them get off on the abuse and overuse of patronizing political buzzwords like "change," "innovation" and "green." Everyone wants to paint themselves as geniuses overflowing with sophistication instead of doing his or her civic duty and exercising some common fucking sense at the polls.
