Hosni Mubarak, the former Egyptian president, has appeared in a Cairo court to face trial on charges of conspiring to kill anti-government protesters and corruption.

Incarcerated within a court cage, the former Egyptian president lying on a stretcher denied all the charges before the judge.

Alongside him in the dock were his sons Gamal and Alaa Mubarak, and the former interior minister with his six aides.

Those present in the court were families of some of the almost 850 Egyptians killed during the uprising in the hope of getting justice in post-revolution Egypt.

Al Jazeera's Sue Turton reports from Cairo.

  • @Gloomaj People who make violence in Egypt are not real Egyptians. They are groups who are motivated by a foreign (or local) political agenda to create instability in the country. They don't want to see Egypt stable and well...

  • @2912770 I don't want Mubarak to happen to him like Qaddafi. But I want democracy in my country. People's votes and opinions should count. Maybe the Brotherhood are motivated by Islamic ideology, but at least they are the choice of the people, and there are elections now.

  • @Gloomaj I know usa are hypocrates, they helped Bin Laden against USSR and helped Saddam against Iran. But I think better for Egypt Mubarak, how is situation better now? do you have stability? democracy? where there's unstability the Islam comes in!

  • @2912770 I am from Egypt and the Muslim Brotherhood are not as extreme as your media would like you to think. They have to make them look bad because they are not a puppet like Mubarak. The extremists are the Salafis who are back by Saudi Arabia who is backed by the States. Yes the United States is a hypocrisy...

  • it is outragious to cage a man in prison who just had a stroke because the illuminati wants to take over his country wake up stupid people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • leave him alone! look who's in power now, is it any better, where is democracy? soom muslim brotherhood will come to power and you can forget about freedom and human rights...

  • What about the other responsible of the chaos of Egypt and in other countries where corruption, dictatorship, oppression and social injustice are used.
