Following this, LL released Mama Said Knock You Out, generally leaning towards a tough street image. The record reestablished his reputation in the hip-hop community. It spawned three hit singles, "The Boomin' System," "Around the Way Girl," and the title track, which received special notice after LL Cool J's dynamic performance of it during an episode of MTV Unplugged. It was also featured in the film The Hard Way.

THey are just ignorant.. I have done my homework and looked up all the best rap and hard core hiphop from 1978-2012 and I'll Say that Cool J is up there with sugar hill, too short, and NWA. As for the song and album, Cool J was said to be washed up and a one hit wonder at the time of the album's release. This ressurected his career, after this he went on a tear, releasing chart ranked albums for the next 16 years. The key thing with LLCJ is that he adapted styles to match the times.
