This is my response to "Transgender Liking Girls" video. I hope I don't come across too harsh, but the video upset me. Link to the video: http://youtu.be/5FtnSAbffLg

  • great video.....it always puzzles me to hear other trans people say "tranny" is derogatory. It has never offended me or the trans that I know personally....Up until recent years, I never heard anyone say they found it pejorative. Like trans lesbianism, I guess that term is yet another dimension of diversity to have to clear up and explain to non-trans folks

  • @nochokin I think context plays a big part. Said casually by a trans person amongst trans people in a jovial manner is far different than a non-trans person using it with that "Ew" tone to describe "those people".

  • You made very good points. I do personally know that there are some transgenders (I am a MtF lesbian myself) who are offended by the word tranny. The connotation oft times is like what was said before a drag queen or cross dresser (I love them all too). The difference being is they are men that like womens clothing. I feel inside that I am a woman. The difference may not matter to some but it does to some of us.

  • @nochokin

It seems when most people hear the word "tranny" they think of transvestites or drag queens—not that there's anything wrong with them—but if that doesn't apply to you(say for example if you are transsexual) then the word starts to get annoying hearing it from people who don't know the difference, well, at least from my point of view. When I hear it, I usually assume they have the wrong idea about me.

  • arh great vid, love it,

  • @TheKairielise yea i definitely get it...just puzzles me sometimes because sometime in context outside of non trans folk shade...i see people saying it derogatory ...i guess just depends on who your are talkin to

  • I didn't watch that video yet but watching this I am probably going to get angry when I do.

It's sad but ignorant and misinformed people automatically assume a Trans person transitioned purely because of their sexuality, in other words, they think that being Trans is the ultimate expression of being Gay.

I hope people would stop thinking of gender and sexuality issues as one.

Far too many Gay men and women disagree with Trans persons and vice versa.

Two seperate issues but same cause.

  • Thanks for speaking out. You are so right. At the Stonewall uprising in New York City, it was the transgendered folk who stood up to police harassment and fought for all the LGBT community. It was transgendered folk who were arrested first. The rest of the gay community should remember that transgendered people had the courage to stand up for LGBT rights when others would not.

  • I wanted to write her because the comments didn't say enough, then I watched your video and you nailed it. Thank you for doing this for her and the rest of us. I go through this treatment everyday by people, even in the LGBT community and there isn't proper education out there, this was a great lesson. I hope others hear it. Thanx Smiles -Nat-

  • good video. thanks for speaking out.
