NewsNetworkToday: 08 December 2009 - United Nations: The UN peacekeeping team in Haiti is implementing a Bio-Digestor programme, or public toilets in crowded urban areas that collects human waste and turns it into methane gas and then into electricity.

This technology was developed by Brazilians, who are helping to implement it on a trial basis in Haiti to help solve sanitation problems and also produce clean electric energy and at the same time may help reduce the need to cut down Haiti's trees for energy, thus reducing its deforestation.
