  • And the stealing they committed together, but for which only he is punished now.

  • The caretaker wants to put the old man on the street. Then he asks his roommates to stand up for him, but they don't help him, and mention some kind of debt.

  • Actually this is NOT Béla Tarr's first ever movie. He made his first short documentary when he was 16. And even his first feature, Családi tűzfészek (Family Nest) was made before Hotel Magnezit. Family Nest was filmed in 1977 (when he was 22), before Tarr was accepted to the Hungarian state film school, but only premiered in cinemas in 1979. This was a student film of his at the school.

  • Syberia00, where did you find this movie? I'm a béla tarr fan and I'd to get a better version of it. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi frinyoka1,

I would love to have a transcript of the film... Could you please help the non Hungarian Tarr fans by posting a transcript of what happens in the movie.?

    Thanks a million!

  • hi noodles, I'm hungarian, and if you haven't found anything yet, than I think I could help you.

1st: the woman tells him that they received the expulsion decision and he has to leave the hotel.

  • try to find it with the only distributors of bela tarr in Japan...good luck

  • I want to start my journey through Tarr's filmography, with this movie at first. Can anybody tell me what exactly is "Hotel Magnezit" about? (i. e. what dialogues are about?). No subtitles are of course available, I'm from Poland and can speak no single word in Hungarian (Magyar)

    Thanks, in advance

  • Thank you so much for posting the video.

I'm a huge admirer of his work.
