  • 0:41 that's the largest cylinder on this triple expansion engine.

  • I have been chief engineer on this cllass of ships for more one year ,it was a fantastic experience that never forget

  • @FliegenCockatiel Titanic and her two sisters had two 4 cylinder triple expansion engines and the LP exhaust drove a turbine ahead only powering the central prop.

  • Wow, Iam looking at these beautiful engines and am just amazed of how they work. Here I am completely astonished at how these engines work and we are in the year 2010. I just cant imagine if the peope who first saw these engines working in the late 1800/early 1900 were just as amazed as I am right now.

I just cant believe this kind of technololy was created at that time period. Amazing!

  • Fliegen, I hear that the SS Jeremiah O'Brien was used in the most recent movie of Titanic.

  • It says in the description that this is similar to the Titanic's engine-was this the vessel used in the movie, or was it similar? I remember reading that a smaller engine was dressed up with 1/3 scale walkways and lights to make the movie.

  • I'm just laughing at the comment saying it was hot in there. I volunteered for quite a few years in that engine room, and we've recorded 120 degrees between the boilers. And sometimes I had to work above the boilers it was even hotter. When you came down from above between the boilers feels like air conditioning! I'd be down there for 8-12 hours when we were underway.

  • I was on this ship recently for a trip I actually stayed overnight on the ship, we slept on the cots that you see towards the end of the video. Best trip I've had in scouting so far!

  • Dr Jones, the engine spaces are huge! The John W, has walking tours regularly and you have full access to the ship. The boilers are quite large, nearly two stories tall including the steam tanks. Those triple expansion steam engines are impressive structures. I was all over that ship last week and fell deeply in love with it!

  • I am working here for McAllister Tugs for the summer and have seen her while passing the pier where the MSC ships are and I am just dieing to get a look inside the engine spaces, Thanks for this video, now lets see the boilers!
