Northwest Indiana Setting the Green Standard

Burns Harbor, IN- The Chesterton/Duneland Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that homes within the Duneland area have once again received recognition. In 2009, the development The Village in Burns Harbor was honored as the first green development within Indiana certified by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). This year, a home within that development has received recognition and raised the bar for quality, efficiency, and sustainable construction within Indiana.

National Green Building Certification is based on the ICC 700-2008 National Green Building Standard. There are four green
certification levels for homes available in the Standard -- Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Emerald. The Gem, built by Treasure Homes, Inc., has received the prestigious Emerald certification, one of only 22 homes certified nationwide. The Emerald level is the highest level of sustainable "green" building incorporating energy savings of 60% or more.

A press conference was held September 7, at 4:00 PM in the Village in Burns Harbor to award and recognize Sarah Oudman, President of Treasure Homes, Inc. and her partners for the development of this home. Visclosky (D-Ind.); Indiana Builders Association President Andy Place Sr.; Michael Davis, Team Leader, New business, NIPSCO; Melody Sanchez, President, Greater Northwest Indiana Association of REALTORS, Heather Ennis, Executive Director of the Chesterton/Duneland Chamber of Commerce and John Kremke, Vice President, Porter County Builders Association and Jim McGee, Town of Burns Harbor Town Council President.
