The famous Welsh Highland NG/G16 Garratts are now running through the spectacular Aberglaslyn Pass, near Beddgelert. This movie was shot over two days (27th & 29th May 2009) exactly 72 years after services ceased under the original WHR on 29th May 1937. Enjoy!

  • I love it!

The garret is really 1 of my favorite types of locomotives.

  • Thanks! Yes Garretts are wonderful machines and the ones on the WHR are the largest narrow gauge locos in the country. Very impressive up close - something I tried to convey in the clip. Glad you liked it.

  • You are lightly wrong, the last train through the pass was the demolition train in 1942. But you are right to say the last WHR train was in 1937. Russell and '590' were left at Dinas and the line closed. it was not untill 1941 / 42 the war effort required steel so the line was lifted and scrapped. Russell got saved after 4 years in Dinas shed. The Baldwin met the same fate as the track it once ran. loving your video. I love garrett 87. cant wait to see the NG15 in action.
