The World's Tallest Vertical Drop Ride!

VALENCIA, CA (September 1, 2011) -- Another one for the history books, Six Flags Magic Mountain, in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC Entertainment, announced today the world's tallest vertical drop ride, LEX LUTHOR: Drop of Doom, will make its debut for the 2012 season. Named after one of DC Comics' most dangerously intelligent super-villains and Superman's greatest enemy, LEX LUTHOR: Drop of Doom will be an engineering phenomenon, attached to both sides of the iconic SUPERMAN: Escape from Krypton tower. Soaring at a sky-scraping 400 feet, LEX LUTHOR: Drop of Doom is slated for a spring 2012 launch.

Fearless riders will be seated inside floorless gondolas on two vertical tracks flanking each side of the SUPERMAN: Escape from Krypton tower. Passengers on the gondolas will be pulled to the top of the tower, experience a brief pause before being released and dropped at speeds of up to 85 miles-per-hour. After five seconds of freefall, the gondola will be stopped by a sophisticated magnetic braking system just a few feet from the ground.

  • Why must all amusment parks in La be so far away from civilisation

  • How many or shall I say, fewer feet is the whole Superman structure higher than the Orange/Reddish Observation Tower? I know they are quite distant from each other, which was a good thing given neither of the structures take away from each others height. When you look at the Sky tower across the park in the video, you realize just how how High you are above the park. It wasa good thing neither were close to each other. Tall park rides look less intimidating when both are by each other.

  • My only suggestion to make the whole Superman and Lex Luthor ride better altogether, is for them to go back to making at least 1 of Supermans Cars go foward like before. OK, so yes I'm chicken about looking almost streight down, but for me to rate this ride altogether, I would Love to ride both rides. I dont understand the reason for having both cars go backwards. Why not give your partons and visitors the option? Looks like a thrilling experience though.

  • Love how the Superman structure looks at 0:17 or 18 into the video. It looks like those huge cable towers off the Freeway with all that metal which are way High up. You not only get most of the ride, but you see how far down the Superman boarding station is. My only question is why does the surrounding area look so depleted? I moved to Chicago IL back 20 years ago and if I'm not mistaken, wasn't Flashback around there somewhere. Cant wait until summer.
