I like the Bruce anchor, I do wonder about your "deep" anchoring with 30 feet of line. Even the Bruce need at least a 5 or 6 to 1 scope to be an effective anchor, and it doesn't hurt to have a piece of chain attached to hold the shank down either.
That anchor is good for sandy/soft bottoms, but not so great for rocky/solid bottoms... We do a lot of deep water anchoring here (100+') in rivers moving 80,000CFS... 8# mushrooms are the ticket, and can be rigged similarly...
We use a bridle anchor system in the Uk for kayak anchoring - better than the cable tie quick release for getting a stuck anchor back. Maybe a drogue would be better for that type of fishing - I would have thought deploying an anchor would scare the fish ?
