Wearing clothes is no longer limited to protecting one's body from outer factors. With the development of technology, eco-friendly and high tech fabric has been born. The "Preview in SEOUL 2011 (PIS 2011)" has been preparing to exhibit the progress that domestic textile industries have made. We have the details.

Hanji is traditional Korean paper handmade from mulberry trees. It has usually been used to make wallpapers or crafts, but now it has expanded into clothing. The clothes sewn with the thread made from Hanji are popular for their eco-friendliness. They emit as much far-infrared radiation as red clay, and also eliminate bacteria by ninety nine point nine percent.

~ The paper yarn is made from Hanji, a eco-friendly material. Slicing Hanji thinly and twisting it make the paper yarn. Since it is already fiberized, there are no problems like the lack of durability even if it is made from paper. Just consider it as an eco-friendly product. It looks like an ordinary thread. However, it is a digital thread with high technology which enables data communication. The combat uniform weaved out of the digital thread is used as a high-tech piece of clothing making wireless communication possible. Moreover, since it has a camera fitted inside, it is expected to be commercialized as the next generation battle dress which enables communication during situations on the battlefield.

~ With digital thread, we are designing communication circuits, and in addition, applying wireless communication modules on it, we enable mutual data communication. Thus, the digital combat uniform can be referred to as a product which is a combination of the textile and IT technology. "Preview in Seoul 2011" was held at the COEX in Seoul on August thirty-first to introduce new concept textiles integrating functional, eco-friendly textiles and cultural codes. In particular, this year's PIS is exhibiting new concept functional textiles beyond the limitations of sportswear and casual wear. Including ultra light clothes which are lighter than Gore-Tex by eighty percent, the hiking outfits which are made of bamboo were shown. This year's event highlights all of the latest textiles applying global sensibilities and trends based on functional and eco-friendly textiles with the participation of a total of two hundred and fifty two companies and four hundred and sixteen booths.
