From my visit to London in October of 2009
My mother and I visited this gorgeous, classic Tudor palace along the Thames. This is several different clips edited together--please forgive my inelegant editing skills, I was playing around with Windows MovieMaker! The first couple are us approaching the gatehouse along the long walk up.
The third is Thomas Seymour in the Base Court, interacting with some kids. Seymour was one of Jane Seymour's brothers--as a result of Jane's marriage to Henry VIII (and of course the birth of her son, Prince Edward), the Seymour family came to great prominence. Thomas was quite a character, a real lady's man, and very charming but quite reckless. In the clip he talks about how "today" Henry is getting married yet again, to his sixth wife, Catherine Parr, and he is here to "say something to her." The reason I giggle on the tape is because Seymour had courted Lady Latimer (Parr)--he of course melted away immediately as soon as Henry's eye fell upon her. After Henry's death, Catherine and Thomas *did* end up getting married, scandalously soon afterward! Thomas came to a bad end, though.
The fourth clip is His Grace himself, Henry VIII. He is walking along the Haunted Gallery, where Catherine Howard's ghost has been seen, running down the hallway and screaming for Henry.
The last clip is the Chapel. We are standing in the gardens just outside of it.
