So this is another VAWT I built. This one is a magnetically levitating airfoil design. I made it with yardsticks, magnets and cut up soda bottles.

So basically, it catches air in the curved part of the airfoil and then on the other side, the other foil produces some lift, to help pull it around at the same time. It should be a little more efficient, but this one has lots of friction at the bottom (which is apparent from the squeeking sounds in the video). This is probably about 5-7 mph wind with up to maybe 10-12 mph gusts. The thing is hard to hold steady, but it works well, so I call it a success.

  • nice work ..

  • I really wanted to do 3 blades, but I didn't have enough soda bottles, so I just went with the 2. For the hour of construction time, I'd say it's not too bad.

  • nice little prototype,

    good job.

  • Thanks
