The lute does seem to be a fiendishly difficult instrument to record well. Recorded from too great a distance does lose too much bass and brings out the hidden banjo! Revealingly, my Yamaha software synthesizer lists the oud (precursor to the lute) under the banjo patch as a variant.
I want this video on my 8800 Gold Arte unit.
