Hotpoint Oven SY10X

We bough a Hotpoint Oven (SY10X) in November 2008 as we thought they were a reliable, honest brand. When the oven was fitted into our new kitchen it started banging at a ferocious volume as soon as it was switched on (from the start). You couldnt even hold a conversation in the kitchen! We got our fitters to look at it again, but they said it was the fault of the oven and not the way it had been fitted.

As the oven was brand new and under warranty we telephoned Hotpoint who sent around one of their engineers. The conclusion of the engineer was that the oven was fine and the noise was caused by heat expansion which was a common problem in such models. There was nothing he could do to fix it as it was a design flaw of this model of oven.

We have sent and received various letters and telephone calls with Hotpoint Customer Services and in short they told us that there was nothing wrong with the oven although they were aware of the common design fault and were still selling ovens that had this side effect.

We have been offered no apology, compensation or offer of a replacement or refund.

I would seriously recommend you do not buy this model of Hotpoint Oven.

UPDATE: April 2010, After Eighteen months of this awful racket, we have decided to buy a non Hot(whats the)point oven as they have showed no commitment to resolve this issue. How any company can treat their customer like this is nothing short of illegal but as we have lost the will to contend this anymore, Hotpoint have won but be warned next time it could be you!

DOH ours is a SY36S.. v sim but a diffe model, ours is v sim but a diffe model, hopefullt without this flaw then.

OMG! i just recived this oven today. If it makes that noise it can go back...lol..

WE had a candy oven for 5ys and that made a racket too from the off!

Just read your explanation..thats disgusting! It will certainaly go back tho if it does make this noise. We got it from argos for £199.99.
