I think when you make a person's sexual orientation into a punchline, it creates a foundation for homophobia. First you laugh at someone for being gay... and then it makes it easier to call someone a name and so on and so forth; it can help foster a culture of homophobia and discrimination.

And then we look at we're where at - and how unequally we treat each other - and we wonder how we got here. It's a slippery slope and I'm sure the people who make gay jokes don't intend for them to contribute to the mistreatment of gay people, but I think we all need to take responsibility what comes out of our mouth and the impact that it has on others.

  • Okay, forget the gay jokes. The racist ones are better anyway.

  • @elvickRULES I have to agree. Theres a major difference between a joke and a hate crime. Jokes just go off into this discriminitive tangent and become paraiahs where someone's like: "eww! GAY??!" Or has it become something more than it is. But you don't see us saying straight people are nasty. I'm gay, and I think all types of sex are beautiful and shoule be respected as such. <3

  • Hateful comments and jokes are different. I can take a good joke just fine. Like that 'falling into a compromising' position you describe, that's been done to death with straight pairings too. I don't see the problem with either thing you describe.

Now if the joke is that they fall on each others lips and then spend 30 hours washing their mouths out and/or puking? That's offensive. If the characters are acting positively about the 'joke' then it's fine, if they're acting negatively? Not so much

  • dude... why dont you just wear clothes in your videos? what posseses you to film yourself half naked? yes i agree that gay jokes arent funny but if you intend for people to take you seriously about anything you have to say than why dont you do yourself a favour and just put on a god damn shirt?

  • @Drakeben395 Oh, and this is a big part of the reason I stayed in the closet for so long. It made me feel ashamed. Fortunately I know better now, but there are many young men in the world who don't yet...

  • Come on guys, be a little considerate. I definitely agree that ppl should be able to laugh at themselves, it makes life easier, but I also know where he's coming from. Before I came out a lot of the humor in my family was degrading/mocking of homosexuals. They aren't bad people, but didn't realize that it can be hurtful. Imagine sitting with your friends or loved ones while they smear, mock and spew hurtful stereotypical bullshit while thinking it's hilarious, while you're aching inside.
