The Beaty Biodiversity Museum is a unique entity, not only in Canada, but in the world. "Biodiversity brings together not just the species, but the processes that connect them and connect them to us," explains Jeannette.
There are two parts to the Museum: the Research Centre which opened in May 2010, and the public side which opened in October 2010. At the ceremonial opening in May, the atrium was officially named the Djavad Mowafaghian Atrium in honor of its donor. The two-story glass gallery showcases the Museum's centrepiece exhibit, a spectacular blue whale skeleton shipped all the way from Prince Edward Island. "It was a labour of love to get it here, and it's the first blue whale to be on exhibit in Canada," Jeannette adds.
