Self-regulating chaos:
No regulation via lanes, signals, signs
Vehicles move at different speeds, merging left and right into oncoming traffic
Pedestrians weave casually through stopped or slow-moving vehicles
Mopeds weave between vehicles, speeding between, or going perpendicular/counter to flow
Buses and large commercial vehicles edge out into oncoming traffic to force a space to enter
No accidents or road rage, (beyond honking)

  • I have to admire italian drivers' driving skills:

    1. they know exactly how not to hit peds while maintaining motion. They would stop at the right time to avoid bumping into peds, no sooner, no later.

    2. they have uncanny intuition to conjecture other drivers intention while passing thru an unsignalized intersection.

    3. the way they drive may serve as a paradigm about how to effectively and efficiently use the space on the road.

    4. peds have total confidence in the drivers; it's no easy task.

  • It is amazing how it all works somehow!!!!!! Fantastico!!

  • I love Napoli! Every time I go there I have the most fun of any city anywhere. Crazy, chaotic and pretty much insane, but SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!! (And the people are wonderful!)

  • @ElephantRage

south italy is part of italy. people like you make southern italians hate northerns

  • Disgusting.

  • NAPLES IS NOT ITALY. NOT EVEN CLOSE. COME TO MILAN, TURIN, BOLOGNE, GENOA, UDINE, FLORENCE, ANYWHERE NORTHWARD OF ROME AND TELL ME IF YOU EVER SEE ANYTHING LIKE THAT. NO WAY.

  • @pfmelody If you want to die from boredom, come to Austria ! :))

  • Who are more civilised? Drivers who need coloured lights and stop signs to tell them not to run over people and smash into cars..or people who by mutual civility make it all work without anyone getting run over or cars smashing into one another and no coloured lights in sight? Think about it...
