In her first year as DC Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee was not one for timid steps. And she's continuing with her sweeping changes.
She's proposing a new contract to the teachers union: one that could double salaries in some cases and get rid of teachers in other cases. To make it happen, she needs a new union contract thatties teacher pay to student performance and gives her the flexibility to remove ineffective teachers. The whole plan, however, is ultimately up to the 4,000 members of Washington's teachers union.

@MsJanetWood No, I am serious. This country has a syndrome.....a phonyness syndrome. I bet that the majority of teachers do an adequate job, lots do really good work. But the trend now is to palce blame on the teachers for the shortcomings of lazy students and parents. No wonder this country is getting nowhere. More and more dumb students to come.

The kids that talk loud and laugh during the movie! The ones that throw popcorn at the screen! The ones that run up and down the movie aisles. The ones that keep getting up to go to the bathroom! Those kids!
Do you think those kids could sit down for a 45 minute Math Lesson?
They can't sit still during a movie! You think they are going to pay attention to their math teacher?
So, who do we blame? The teacher? The administrators? The parents? Or the kids?

Seniority... tenure.... is the base to maintain teachers? Or should it be quality.... being senior does not imply good quality.

@MsJanetWood You should really learn to cherish diversity more. Of course it is not the parents or students fault, they are victims. Why, if the teacher was good enough that spoiled brat student would learn via osmosis. Parents do not need to instill in their kids a love of learning....or a sense of discipline, manners...etc, etc, it is all the teachers duty and fault.
