"Okay," Mikhayla said, picking up a mic. "Who wants to go first?" They were all gathered on the couches in the karaoke bar, with a few snacks and drinks on the table.
Everyone looked at one another.
"All right then," Mikhayla smiled. "I'll take the honor of singing the first song."
She fidgeted with a few buttons on a remote, and soon music started playing from the speakers, along the lyrics showing on the big flat screen TV set up in the room.
The song was 'Tear Drops On My Guitar' by Taylor Swift.
Mikhayla had a beautiful voice, but listening to the lyrics stung Joe's heart.
"I'll bet she's beautiful, that girl he talks about," Mikhayla sang. "And she's got everything that I have to live without..."
Joe took Olivia's hand and squeezed it. By the way Olivia squeezed it back, he knew she was feeling the same way as him.
"He's the reason for the tear drops on my guitar..."
With this song, could Mikhayla possibly be referring to... Joe and Olivia? Was this song for them?
When she finished the song, she smiled and did a little curtsey, as everyone clapped and cheered.
"Oh my god, that was amazing!" Briana gushed as she stood up, completely oblivious to the 'hidden message' in the song. "I'll go next."
"Then me!" Joe said raising his hand. Somehow, he felt like he just HAD to sing -- for Olivia, and only Olivia.
Mikhayla handed Briana the mic and the remote, as they switched spots.
"Okay..."Briana mumbled to herself, trying to figure out how the remote worked.
Soon enough she had got it, and the lyrics started showing up on the screen as well as the intro coming from the speakers. "I'd like to dedicate this song to a certain someone," She said with a smile during the intro, looking at no one in particular.
"Hmm, I've never heard this one before," Maddy cocked her head as Briana sang.
"It's Britney," Olivia explained, "Called 'That's Where You Take Me'."
Everybody Ohhh-ed at this, as Briana blushed for singing a song that hardly anyone in the room knew.
"Oh baby, oh baby, I saw your smile, stay with me awhile..." Briana sang. "All things fall in to place, my heart it feels so safe. You are my melody, that's where you take me..."
Kevin's heart was beating.
Briana said she was dedicating this song to someone. Could that possibly be... him? No, not possibly, it was definitely him. I mean, who else could it be?
He listened to the lyrics. It was a love song, so sweet and pure, that it was almost a little impossible to believe that THE Britney Spears was the one who wrote it.
When the song finished, Briana flashed a smile at Kevin.
This made it official -- the song was for him.
He smiles back, as Briana handed the mic to Joe and she sat down.
"Alrightie," Joe grinned. "Dedication: the following song is for Olivia."
Olivia blushed. Not only because the hottest guy EVER was about to dedicate a song to her, or because that hot guy, also being her favorite singer EVER was about to sing in front of her LIVE. No. Her face was turning red as she looked down because she felt a prickle on the side of her face. She pretended to talk to Maddy next to her and turned to look where (or who) it was coming from. Mikhayla. She was looking at her. But not really in a you're-so-dead-to-me kind of way, but her gaze was filled with sadness, as if she wished she were in Olivia's shoes.
Thinking this and thinking that, the intro to the song Joe had entered finished, and he started singing.
The whole crowd of the girls was melting to the sound of Joe's voice, even if they already had the best boyfriends ever, who by the way could sing as well as his brother. None of it mattered -- all eyes were on Joe right at that moment.
When it came to the chorus of the song, Olivia was certain her heart had turned into melted ice cream on a hot summer day.
"Our love, is the best love..."
Did he really think that?
If he did, Joe was the best guy EVER.
Olivia couldn't help but grin, feeling as if the side of her lips may reach her ears.
Then, she felt another prickle -- the same kind as before. She quickly looked to where it was coming from, and found out that it was again, Mikhayla.
Now Olivia was starting to feel something weird. It could be described as something like, sorrow, shame, sadness... None of those words alone could properly describe it. Unfortunately, Olivia couldn't find the exact word -- she decided it was either because she wasn't smart enough to know all those complicated vocabulary, or because there was no such word. (She thought the former was more likely.)
She thought she'd raise her hand and sing a song dedicated to Joe, but she couldn't think of a song good enough... And before she could come up with anything, Joe's song had ended, and Gabby had beaten her to it.
