A quick and boring look at some of the things you can do on Flow. Really not worth your time as I don't have internet access and so can only show you some basic things.

  • I logged in ok with the builds user and pass with the exact same OS build your using but I cant login with my own google account.... Why not?

  • @SorkStar To log in with your own account you must have an internet connection. After you connect a few times I think it will remember your account. So log in with facepunch, get the network configured and then try again.

  • this video proves that chrome os is basically completely useless without internet access. I really hope things change in the final version so that you can do things on the os without internet access. I currently use jolicloud which is sort of similar but comes with a bunch of different linux programs

  • @mikee286 is almost useless to me without internet access. Windows 7 on an SSD is plenty fast enough for me.

However new to Flow is the Cell option under the networking tab. If you have a data plan like 3G then Chrome OS may be a bit more useful.

Really now I'm just excited because Chrome OS is Chrome so when Chrome OS gets upgrades so does Chrome.

  • That's terrible lol. If you have 3g and basically everything is done online you would be technically paying to do everything on the computer. For 3g you would still want as much stuff stored offline as possible to keep your data plan bill as low as possible. If there was a data plan with unlimited access for a flat rate then yes this would be very useful but I have yet to find such a plan.

  • Yea, I've never actually used 3G, I just live on a college campus where you've got like a square mile of wifi connection available and then connection inside that Chrome OS is not yet able to connect to due to security.

I already do everything online but do I want to switch to Chrome OS? Not really.

But I think thats why they are just advertising it as a supplement mobile device OS and not your main computer OS.

  • @d3ivino with flow you have to use username and password facepunch

  • @mikee286 i use my palm pre for all the little saily surfing things and have the sprint everything mobile plan ($69). unlimited data is awsome!

  • i read that you have to side in with a wired connection, then setup your wireless, then you are fine afterwards for wireless

  • @d3ivino Sorry, I can't help. I have no idea. For me after I logged in a few times when connected I was able to log in with my account. But I don't use Chrome OS as it can't connect to my school network because it doesn't have all the encryption stuff yet.

  • @mikee286 Yea. I think Google is planning to impliment some features to make it less useless offline. They are already talking about a media player built in and if they add gears support then it will be decent offline.

I really just put chrome on my laptop to see how fast it would run from an SSD. 7 seconds compared to 18 seconds for boot time may be worth it to some people. Initially I was pretty excited about Chrome OS but not so much anymore.

But the way I use a computer nowadays my Windows
