There's a traffic safety message buried somewhere underneath all this silliness, I just know there is.

I know because I co-wrote it. Perhaps more than a little explanation is due: "Mr. Invincible #9 - Back From The Dead" was meant to reintroduce the character of Mr. Invincible to our listening audience after a month-long hiatus from the airwaves of Newstalk 780 KOH in Reno. We had not played a single one of these spots during the fall of 1997- certainly not after the traffic-related death of Princess Diana; we thought it would be absolutely tasteless in the aftermath of such a tragic event to put anything like that on the air. After a month, however, we decided it was safe again, and we moved forward with what is decidedly a very silly spot that doesn't seem to have a point to it all, other than (perhaps) a big slap on the wrist to drunk drivers.

That doesn't mean I don't think the spot isn't any good; certainly it features some of our funniest writing, and a fantastic guest appearance by a broadcaster whose name, sadly, has been lost to us over the mists and sands of time. While I had a ton of fun putting on a "Hunchback of Notre Dame" sort of voice (and I'm honestly not sure how we settled on a "horror movie" sort of theme), the voice of the man doing a marvelous Bela Lugosi imitation belonged to a gentleman whose first name was Sonny. Again- a search of our files turns up nothing; we truly wish that we could give this man proper credit; in any case, we're proud to share his wonderful work with everyone here. I simply love the way that Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" seems to embrace his voice as he speaks the words "I've converted my VCR into a Tesla coil that makes muffins, espresso, and brings people back from the dead"....a goofball bit of dialog that only Phil Galbraith could have come up with.

"Mr. Invincible" was the focus of a series of public service announcements that were aired on Newstalk 780 KOH in Reno, Nevada; Sean McDevitt and Phil Galbraith wrote, produced and performed these traffic safety spots from 1997-2000.
