  • That looks so easy in no wind at aall. Now I am more suspicious on what happens in 40 knots of wind. No fuss? C'mon! I will stick to my great Harken battcars with roller bearing. I can safely reef even sailing downwind, which is strictly impossible with any in boom furler

  • @MrPopeye47 - Forespar has sold over 4,000 of these in-boom furlers worldwide. I personally know of around a dozen very happy and satisfied owners. One has reefed in 30-35 knots of wind with no problem, though he said was glad he had an electric winch to make the furling easier. As I say to everyone regardless of the product, find an owner who has one and ask them about it.

  • nice boat, what is the name of it?

and what furling system do you use?

  • @resqual - The boat is a Tartan 4400. Furling is Leisurefurl by Forespar.

  • @YakChap ... such a system is intended for keen sailers who may be of age and cannot lift the sail manually but who still wish to enjoy a sail ...

  • Seems kind of lazy to use the winch alone to raise the main. I would be inclined to still sweat on the main when raising it in order to minimize wear on the winch and other gear. Other than that it looks like a great system.
