This is my aquaponics setup, which I built with much fuss over the course of about 2 weeks. I have 2 grow beds one with gravel (traditional aqua/hydroponics) and soil (non-traditional). The soil medium is an experiment at this point. Having done some research I determined that the most important thing for growing plants (traditionally, in-ground/outside) is the soil. So I thought I might try to get some results using soil in an aquaponics setup. Forseen consequence was the coloration of the water, which being full of soil/compost and being aerated in the aquarium, basically makes compost tea, which I understand to be very good for plants. So optimistically, my plants will get compost tea for dinner everyday/night and grow big and juicy, or they will die because of the over soggy soil due to poor drainage. Cheers.

  • Seems like it will be a lot of maintenance with the sediment box needing to be cleaned a lot. Look forward to seeing how the system does. The good thing I see is the tea going to gravel bed too. Can't hurt to experiment. Good luck I'll sub you and keep an eye on how its going.
