Shaheen ex Prophets of Da City - Afrolution interview

Prophets Of Da City were the first ever African Hip Hop group to come out of the African continent and step out onto the international stage. The group no longer exist but we caught up with ex lead mc Shaheen at the African Hip Hop conference at Harvard University in Boston for some amazing insight into their story against the backdrop of Apartheid in South Africa.

The first crew were Cape Town City Breakers, Hot Rods and Pop Glide Crew and then Ballistic Rockers. POC arose from the ashes of Ballistic Rockers. The first great battle was between POP GLIDE CREW and BALLISTIC ROCKERS . PGC won. The second one was contentiouse, won by Ballistic Rockers. The third was what many regard as the greatest battle of its era took place at Teazers in CT and was won by arguably the best crew of its era Pop Glide Crew. I was watching it from upstairs.
