VICTORIA - A former Saanich Police Reserve Constable accused of misrepresenting his credentials makes his first court appearance later this week
Jason Walker is charged with fraud after he swore an affidavit in a child custody case.

Investigators allege the 31 year-old misrepresented himself as a doctor and are also looking into other testimony Walker presented in court.

Walker was hired by several high profile government agencies including the BC Coroners Service and the Vancouver Island Health Authority.

Walker also operated his own clinical counselling company, Health Point Consulting, formerly Doctor Jason Walker Inc.

But Saanich Police say Walker is not a doctor and in a statement the police department says its investigation of Jason Walker is not over and there may be additional charges.

Investigators say they have concerns about Walker's testimony last May at an impaired driving trial.

/A\ News has obtained a transcript of that trial. In it Jason Walker testifies that he is a medical doctor and that he also holds a Ph. D. in clinical counselling.

"You're a medical physician, is that true?" the Crown asks. "Yes, Your Honour." Walker replies.

The Crown then asks, "What sort of medicine is it that you practice?" Walker responds, "I'm certified in behavioural forensic sciences and I also have a Ph.D. in clinical counselling".

Later the Crown asks, "And when did you graduate from medical school?" to which Walker replies "2002".

Walker later clarifies his credentials telling the court "My medical degree is from the University of Calgary and I did a Ph.D. at the University of Toronto and the University of - or, pardon me, Smith College."

When asked later by the Crown that "You did at some point, practice medicine in the sense of seeing - seeing people who presented with either health problems or problems relating to physical trauma?" Walker replies, "Yes, Your Honour."

Crown counsel told /A\ News last Friday it has not seen any report from Saanich investigators regarding Walker and could only talk generally about testimony given on the stand.

"If a person makes a false statement under oath or under solemn affirmation knowing that it's false with the intention that is to mislead, can be charged with perjury." Criminal Justice Branch Spokesperson, Neil MacKenzie said last week. "I don't think it's a charge that we see extremely frequently. It's a significant offence. It's an indictable offence and the maximum sentence is 14 years in custody".

/A\ News has learned Crown lawyers now have more information on that testimony and are currently reviewing a transcript of the trial.

The allegations against Jason Walker have not been proven in court.
