While GFCIs (ground fault circuit interrupters) protect us from shocks, AFCIs or Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters protect our house from catching fire. Sounds pretty important to me! So watch this video to learn more about AFCIs and how to test to make sure they are working in your home.

  • The GFCI is designed to protect people from fatal electric shocks. The AFCI protects against fires caused by arcing faults. The GFCI also can protect against some electrical fires by detecting arcing and other faults to ground but cannot detect hazardous across-the-line arcing faults that can cause fires.

I hope that helps. Thanks! --Keith Ruehl

  • So, circuits with gfci's are not protected from arcs, and those with afci's are not protected from shocks?
