Nyköping party 20090829

We walked from the railway station in Nyköping to the Castle Nyköpingshus, where the meeting should take place.

We were welcomed ouside the Castle by an entertainer from Nyköping.

After that we had a delicious dinner in the Gästabudssalen. We were around 100 persons from Boden in the north to Skåne in the south. The most people came from Stockholm or Småland.
The entertainer told us about the room we were sitting in. It was built by The King Carl IX, in the later part of the 16 th century. It was built to be a shelter.
Around 1590 my ancestor Brita Larsdotter worked here as a Director for the household. She was wellpayed! Her father was Larentius Andreae or Erici. He worked in the Allhelgonakyrkan (The All Saints Church) next to the Castle. Brita was married to Jöns Måtrensson. He was a sheriff in the area. They had at least 2 sons, Michael and Carl. Carl was a soldier in the cavalry under King Gustaf II Adolf of Sweden( he was son to King Carl IX). Carl Jönnson was knighted in 1617 and granted noble status for good work in the calvalry. Then he got the name Sabelskjöld from the King.
Carl was married twice. His first wife had roots both in the old Swedish noble families and her father came from Scotland; he was very rich. I belong to that branch. Later on Carl was married to a woman who belonged to an old Swedish family with noble status.

Brita Larsdotter was as married to Carl Sabelskjöld a breast-feed to one of the Swedish princeses.

We got entertainment during the whole dinner.
Then it was time for coffee and a cake; special made for that day, with the Sabelskjöld weapon on it and also with No 150, the Sabelsjöld number at the Swedish House of Nobility.

We had nice talks during the coffee and I met a man who belonged to the same branch as me. He had been a scientist.

We also listened, during one hour to a very interesting speach about women´s work during the 16 th and 17 th centuries, and also about the work at a Castle in that time.

Swedens best exportproducts in that time were: Wood, iron and butter. The women produced the butter and was quite well payed for that.
